hi vulcan riders this is a question for you vn900 owners classic or customs has any one changed the pulleys to lower the revs etc
feels like revs quite high between 80klms too 100kls (love a 6th gear) reason i want too ask you guys do alot off long distance trips etc
i know scootworks make them for the vn900 i guess the question is ....is it worth doing has any one done it too their bike ?
would welcome any feed back
thanks Cool

Ah the old 6th gear problem. I think most agree it really does need an extra gear.
I think everyone has looked at new ulleys but no one I know has put them on. Seems like a reasonably cheap way to maybe fix the issue.
I have been considering it for sometime and still think about it. I guess my issue is whether I stick with the VN or a different bike.

In regards to long trips. I rode to QLD during Xmas and whilst it wasn't an ideal bike to do it on, you get used to it and found sitting on 110 to 120 was ok. Ed has riden his to Ayres Rock last year. We often do rides of about 400-500 ks no problem at all. I guess it depends what you want out of the bike.........

From all reports doing the front pulley is well worthwhile with a nice drop in
revs but no real noticable change to bottom end p/u. I will be doing this very
soon if i decide to keep my 900. On the con side there is a higher rate of
bearing failure due to the drive belt not staying aligned correctly. Apparently
if the belt doesnt stay true it loads up pressure on the bearing and causes
the pulley to get the wobbles and makes the retaining nut work itself loose.
There is alot of info on the USA kwaka site on the brg prob and its not just
the aftermarket pulleys having the prob its the OEM ones as well just not as
common is all.

Oh yeah, I can't rate the Mustang seat high enough. The bike didn't miss a beat and no soreness whatever. Averaged 700/800 km a day, longest being 965.
