People i have spoken too speak highly of the metzler 880's, they didnt have in stock when i needed a newbie so i got the bridgestone so far very happy with it, lots more grip than the dunlaps!

I have bridgestone front and back and very happy with the wear and grip. Far better then the Dunlop in terms of grip both wet and dry.

I have always run dunlop 404s which have suited me for sometime. particularly good in the wet. my rear tyre will need to be replaced before the next long trip however I am almost ashamed to say as nearly 20ks on it. (thats only because I am really tight ) interestingly however I noted significant improvement in handling and grip after I replaced and upgraded my suspension to progressive springs on the front and IKon shocks rear with the same tyres. I am thinking while a good tyre is clearly a must it is important the suspension is in good shape or your money on an expensive tyre is wasted. just a thought. bear in mind my bike was 10 years old before I replaced the suspension so you probably dont have that worry.

Only saw this thread late so sorry for the late reply My Vn1600 came standard with the Bridgestone Exedras, which I replaced when the second set of tyres were due. Needed the second set of new tyres earlier this year and my mechanice (and most VN owners on the Ulysses web site) recommended the Metzler 880's. Put a new Metzler on both front and back. I do not ride with sufficient 'enthisiasm' to really test the capability of the bike and tyre, but a recent trip in the rain certainly found me far more confident when cornering. The new tyres hugged the wet road beautifully. I am sure you cannot go wrong with the new Metzlers.
