PostSubject: Bike written off   Bike written off EmptyTue Jun 26, 2012 11:54 am

To those that are not aware, on a recent ride to the North Coast, I had a low speed off and although the bike rode nicely home, due to the ridiculous price of parts Swann insurance have written off the VN after being told that my aftermarket market lights and other parts were not available and quoted for OEM parts. Put the parts and repair bill at $8,500. I think insurers are being ripped off by repairers.

I wasn't after a w/o at all, as I did love that bike and will not rush to buy another, preferring to take my time and make a good med/long term decision. Would welcome suggestions though. Triumph is high on the list.

RIP my dear friend, we had fun.

Leaning toward a Triumph, maybe the Thunderbird. Thanks for putting the pressure on me re FR # 20 lol. If I get the Triumph and with Stew on a Ninja, perhaps we need to change the name here. That was a talking point a while ago.

Glad I stripped the bike of parts I could. May have a Mustang seat and woollen cover for sale. As new, one owner.

Sad news Ed, even I will miss the orange VN, certainly one of a kind with all your gadgets.

Hey Rod yeah still thinking about it.
i did the Hay plains at Christmas and am not overly keen on doing that again.
Even sitting on 200+ took forever was very hot and windy, with literally nothing for hundreds of Km's. I was leaning the bike into the wind just to stay upright.
The other problem I had was almost running out of fuel.....
If i can come up with a more interesting route too take then I will certainly be on the ride.
Going from there though to start of GOR is VERY boring!!! Although have to say the GOR ride maybe worth it.
Plus I managed to do it without losing any points Laughing Laughing

Hi Ed and all
Just came back on to the forum and note with regret your status of bike. Not good.
Like all of us when coming off, you are grateful and thank all and sundry that you are okay, and we are also grateful for that.
And --- this is the only way we can look at it .
Somehow to console ourselves about the loss.

Cheers Mate and take care
Len

Yeah, a bit old. Wanted newer and less km. Big plus on the Vstar is 10,000 km service intervals. I don't want to add up what I paid for the VN to get it looked after, having put 85,000 on the clock. The 1304 cc, is more than enough to do what I want to do over the next few years. Have always wanted to tour Australia and would have had to upgrade from the VN if I did that. I'm sure she would have coped with the KM, but the higher CC will be welcomed.

Lower, yes. Should be ok. May have to be slower on Macquarie Pass lol.

Adam, I didn't ride the Triumph. You know when a bike is not you when you sit on it. The side stand was way to far forward for me to put them down with ease. That would always niggle at me and 1600 cc is just not needed. I rode the Vstar around Parrammatta for about 20 mins. Great ride position, great sound and am happy with that.

Hi Ed, looks very similar to the VN.....still nice looking bike though.
Now about it being lower. Given you tend to ride a cruiser like its a sport bike how do you think that is going to work for you?
Your VN had forward pegs but with a classic style bike you will certainly scape around almost every corner. This might become annoying in a short space of time.
Just a thought.
