| OK, you have my attention Adam. Now, correct me if I'm wrong in my understanding of the rules. We have to be at Euston between 11:30 and 12:00 on the Saturday. Given that Euston is about 1,016 km from Sydney (per my below Google map) we would pretty much do our 1,000 km just getting there. With your experience Adam, what would you be recommending. My initial strategy would be to depart Sydney at say 12:00 noon on the Friday, travelling as far as reasonable that day, leaving a cruise to the finish line on the Saturday. Your thoughts, because I am interested. View Larger Map | |

| What you have suggested is spot on Ed,
I intend to leave fri 1200hrs and stay overnight at Narrandera leaving me 375km to get to Euston in the morning Some attending will be heading some distance home after lunch on the Saturday so as to make the Sunday run home shorter.
I sure hope that you and maybe a few others will join us on this run If there is enough interest from SVR riders i would look at going back to Wagga Wagga on the Saturday arvo staying overnight there and then doing the ride home sunday!!

| I'm in.
I was thinking maybe stay at Hay Friday night, leaving me just 211 km on Saturday, but I will play around with the maps etc before I confirm a route. I will register tonight.

| Narrandera sounds good, but given the choice, I'd prefer a smaller residual than the almost 400 that you are facing on the Saturday. Still early days to plan. Actually getting quite excited about it. I'm sure I can get a few NSWR's along also. | |

| Great news Ed,
Just a word of advice, try and do the bulk of your ride solo believe me its 1000 times easier and safer to do that way maybe meet up fri night and ride into Euston as a group would be the way to go

| A few more details explained. The ride is being organised by a group called Far Riders, who specialise in or favour long distance rides. A similar association is the Iron Butt Association To attend the ride and gain the status of FarRider within the group, you first have to join their forum, which I did last night. You can do that @: http://farriders.com/forum/index.php?action=register After that it is a simple matter of posting an introduction and registering for the ride. You can register for the ride @: http://rides.jasonjonas.com/regRequest.php?id=170 When you start your ride, the idea is that you fill your tank with fuel and retain the docket as a time stamp for the start of your journey. You could also reset your trip meter etc. As they say though, if you fudge your km's the only person you are cheating is yourself. The idea of the ride and to qualify as a FarRider is to complete a distance of 1,000 km within a 24 hour period. You must be at Euston, the destination for the next ride, between 11:30 and 12:00 on the Saturday. You do not have to travel the full 1,000 km before the finish but you must complete 1,000 km within the 24 hour period before or after the finish. Let's say Euston was 500 km from your home. You would travel 500 km to get there and 500 km home again. So long as that journey is completed within a 24 hour period, it is ok. Unfortunately, Euston, travelling via Bathurst, Orange, Cumnock, Parkes, overnight perhaps at Hay or Narrandera and then on to Euston is something like 1016 km. This means for Sydney travellers that they would need to ride the complete 1,000 km before the finish. The next trip is to Euston and you must be there by 11:30 on Saturday 28th May. My strategy is to depart from Sydney at 12 noon on Friday 27th May giving me a full 24 hours to complete the ride. It does not matter how you get there as long as you travel 1,000 km. I'm hoping to travel 800 km to Hay on the Friday which gives me just 200 km on the Saturday. This may be a big ask if I leave at 12:00 noon, but I am still to make a firm plan. Perhaps I could wing it on the day. I am also new to this but I like the concept. Thanks Aj for posting. If you are interested or have further questions, just ask. I'm sure Aj can help. The important thing is to register at their forum and also for the ride at the above links.

| Thanks for posting that up ED
As for your plans for Hay on the fri night as long as you are happy riding 800km in the time you have allowed yourself go for it. I do prefer to split my run approx 60-40 My run in on Sat will be 382km or 4hrs 7min according to google Checkin opens at 11.30 and closes midday so i will leave Narrandra at 6am giving me 5 1/2hr to get there which i feel comfortable with
Please consider fuel stops in the evenings in some country towns servo's close at 7-8pm so if you miss your window you may be stuck until morning and have further than planned to travel on the Staurday
For anybody else planning on joining us, ifm i can be of any assistance at all please ask. If some of you are nervous about riding this distance dont be you could split it into 2 500km days making it quite a reasonable ride. I would be willing to ride with anybody that would prefer to have company.

| They seem like a nice bunch AJ. I have Rudy and Mick coming also. Applied for a day off from school on the Friday, today. Given my last sick day was 2 years ago, they will not decline the application.

| Stew,
If you are even just considering this ride please register ASAP, as they do limit the number of participants and it is filling up faster than most previous rides. Just remember you may cancel anytime right up until the day!

| At Nambucca we had 108 bikes, not sure on how many pillions, but 90 seems to be the norm. There are a few of then regulars not attending this ride as they are heading overseas. This will be one of the largest turnouts of riders popping their FarCherry lol | |

| Mine will truly be popped lol. I have asked for the Monday off. Mick is heading off to Adelaide, so at least Rudy and I will join him on a trip to the Flinders Ranges, with Rudy and myself returning Monday, Mick later that week.
Pretty sure most of us will be staying at Hay Friday. | |

| Good effort Len. See you at Euston if not before. Our group met today and firmed up the following route, shown at the bottom of this post. Leaves us about 270 km from Hay on the Saturday, so we added in a detour from Balranald to Piangil and then to Euston. Anny from our group suggested at the farRider site that we get a group shot of all attending their first FarRiders event. Great idea and I will try and arrange. For those interested, Mick put together this list. Papers · Driving license · Tow Truck numbers Communications · Mobile phone charged · Charger for mobile phone · Phone numbers of riding mates Spare Parts · Spare key · Fuses Camera Equipment · Photo camera · Spare batteries · Extra SD cards (if you need them) Tools (each bike has different requirements) · Spanners · Ratchet and bits · Tire puncture kit · Flash light · Motorcycle manual · Bungee cords · Electrical tape · Duct Tape · Disk lock Motorcycle related · Oil check · Brakes check · Lights check · 1 litre of spare oil Extra Riding gear · Clear visor · Rain suits (pilot and passenger) Clothes · Summer gloves / winter gloves · Casual shoes · Casual clothes (undies, socks, T-Shirts,...) · Hats Orientation · Area map · GPS with map preloaded / printed map in case GPS fails · Itinerary Miscellaneous · Credit card · Cash · Water bottle · Waterproof bags for electronics (lunch bags) · Weather check First Aid · Complete kit Toiletries · Sun lotion · Tissues View Larger Map | |

| Excluding Adam and Len, my NSWR group is now 13, with one uncertain due to a family commitment. I take on board your comment Adam about riding solo, but I'm cool with these arrangements. We have three Departure points (Penrith, Mascot and Wollongong), each travelling about 80km to a group meet at the Mobil Service Station at Pheasants Nest. I have 5 maybe 6 booked at the Saltbush Cottage in Hay with the remainder bar one booked at the Saltbush Inn, about 75 metres away. Unless plans change, I will return via the Great Ocean Road on the way back, with Rudi. Mick and Christine, making it a 1900 km return trip from Euston. That journey will also take in a chopper ride over the Twelve Apostles and a 40 minute sea ferry trip across Port Philip Bay with some great photo opportunities. Can't wait. Riders and pillions now total 93 for FarRide #16. My four days will see me log just under 2,900 km.
