| Ok, guys and gals. FarRide # 18 is an easy one. A mere 522 km away from Sydney, this can be attempted several ways: A day ride by rising early, riding to NH and then completing the balance in the afternoon on the trip home ie within the 24 hour window. Or perhaps a similar early rise, riding to NH and again completing the balance in the afternoon, but overnighting at NH or nearby. Or a quick 300 km trip to Forster on the Friday evening, brekky on the beach at Forster sat and then riding to NH. Balance of KM in the afternoon. Many other options to consider. Stew, I expect you on this one. More details can be seen @: http://farriders.com/FarRides/farride18.htmView Larger Map | |

| Roads round Dorrigo are a great ride. I have the nod from H on this so will have to see how work pans out. Something about not having enough holidays... | |

| Edging closer to FR18.
I have 9 maybe 10 joining this ride. 6 including Stew, are heading to Port Macquarie on the Friday night, then cruising to NH on the Sat for the RTE. Completing any Km needed in the afternoon on the way back to Sydney. If you are going and have not registered, please do so ASAP. Numbers are at 132 and in the past they have considered closing registrations when they reach these levels.
If you ride but fail to register prior to the meet you will not be listed as finishers on the Official Finishers List. Registrations close at 5pm AEDT Wednesday, 15 February 2012 or when a set maximum number of participants is reached, whichever comes first.

| Well, that was an adventure. Our group of 6 which included 3 FarRider Virgins, including Stew, left Berowra just after 7:30 pm Friday, for a quick 350 km ride to the Big4 Bonny Hills Caravan Park. After having a few stops, as we were in no hurry at all, arrived at the park just on midnight. Spent a while chatting and looking at maps as we hadn't given the Saturday leg any really serious thought. As I explained to Kimmy, a fellow FarRider that we caught up with at the servo near Port Macquarie my plan was to ride straight up the highway to NH, extending past NH perhaps to Dorrigo to soak up some km, and then finding our way back to NH and finishing the required km in the arvo. After fuelling up, we headed to Port Macquarie for brekky, where the group considered it more exciting to ride via Millbank and finally join Taylors Arm Road. After some 20 + km of dirt road, where we were supposed to turn right, to lead to Taylors Arm Road, we came across an impassable road barrier. A couple of kind farmers saw our plight and said 'No problem, just detour via our farm'. After we rode up and down a few 'precarious' hills on their property, we rejoined the intended road, all this with my GPS saying we still had 48 km to go with an ETA of 12:50 and a fail. I remember thinking 'not happy Jan' or something similar lol. Once we found bitumen, the pace picked up and slowly the ETA fell to 12:30. I was feeling a bit better. It's a long way to go to miss check in. As everyone now knows, my GPS was pretty spot on and we all got to check in with literally seconds to spare. It was an interesting ride and the country up there was beautiful, but it wasn't our intention to cut it so fine. Sorry to the other riders about that, but hey, it wasn't my plan after all. A good reminder to plan your ride and ride your plan. With more km to complete on Saturday afternoon, we left NH before 2:00 and finished the ride. It was great to see so many at NH and thanks to Clint at FarRiders for being so organised at check in. Look forward to seeing my check in photos with my full face helmet on. I believe AJ stayed overnight and hope he and those that stayed overnight had a great time. Look forward to the next one at Lightning Ridge and expect other FarRide virgins from Sydney Vulcan Riders to attend. Perhaps even Harry could attend. Verna, I think you would love it, so please consider, as everyone else should. | |
